The Name Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan surely rings a bell in the ears of many Deltans. Not just because he is the Governor of the oil producing state but because of the many reforms he has been able to carry out as the governor so far.
For many reasons, Delta State is known as the big heart of the Nation. After all, when Delta State sneezes, Nigeria as a country catches cold in sympathy. Now what this means is that anyone saddled with the task of governing a state as complex and diverse as Delta State requires more than ordinary skill, wisdom and a great deal of intellect and sagacity to move the ball of progress rolling and also lead its people in harmony. Governor Uduaghan has all of this.
He may not have the size of an elephant but he surely has the brain of a tortoise. His deeds and actions, word and utterances has always portrayed him as a focused, humble, not-noisy, hardworking and visionary leader who is really trying to build a Delta State that is not dependent on only oil.
Surely, he has not delivered all the dividends he promised at his inauguration but he and his deputy has shown clearly in their two years in office that they have a firm grasp of knowledge in what to do to make Delta State the pride of the Nation. Uduaghans’ face is always masked up with the hunger and desire to achieve success.
The Governor is a lucky man as he has a fantastic network of information personnel led by the Hon. Commissioner of Information, Mr. Oma Djebah who ensures that the good works and intentions of His Excellency never goes unnoticed. These he does by mapping out good ideas like the True Face of Delta initiative which was established to portray Deltans as peaceful and highly resourceful. The initiative also beams out the development strides achieved by the Governors administration.
Governor Uduaghan needs many Governor Uduaghans around him so it is no surprise therefore that his commissioners and special assistants have the same unshaken hunger and urge to succeed like him. This has brought about massive progress in the life of Deltans.
Deltans surely have every reason to be optimistic about the future because as the Governor’s name EMMANUEL suggest “God is surely with us”. If Governor Uduaghan keeps up with this level of consistency in developing the state, then as the Americans will always say, “We aren’t seen anything yet”.

From my objective observation and interaction with Deltans in and outside the state, Gov Uduaghan has done quite well in pursuing the peace and security agenda of his administration. I believe the state will become the haven of leisue, tourism and importantly, investment in no distant time!

Greetings to all Deltans and friends of Delta State.?The Information Summit in Delta State was an opportunity to draw attention to the State and it indeed turned out to be a great show, but then how do we sustain it? How can the momentum be sustained and how can the State achieve the best from this project??One thing remains clear. The days of ethnic interest should now be consigned to history. For many years it has not paid us any good. Jobs have not been created and quite frankly, the people need jobs to survive. There are many who want a decent job to grow on. There are some who need the right environment that will unleash their talent. That is why the peace and security agenda of the present administration in Delta State is a welcome relieve. Its a way of encouraging the market to grow on its own so that investors can develop the confidence to penetrate the market and provide needed goods and services for the people.?Obviously, Delta State has never had it so good and it will interest you to know that this is just the starting point. There are so many investment opportunities in Delta and Nigeria. If you ever lived in the remote parts of Nigeria before leaving the shores of the country you will observe that we have a rich rural economy waiting to be tapped. Forget the fact that there is seeming poverty. We can change all that. Our resources and ingenuity are waiting to be exploited.?Agriculture shoul be the back bone of our economy but is it not shameful that we have to import Rice, Beans, Poultry, Beef, Pork, Toiletries, Beverages, Cloth and Clothings, Ceramics, Paintings and so many other things.?It is the fault of a rudderless leadership but also implicated is the annoying greed and obsessive pandering to ethnic superiority. How has it helped us??If you take Delta State for instance, ask yourself how many companies have been openned that has absorbed many from the Labor Market. The pattern of investment has been: Petrol Stations and Hotels. Yes, these re essential to any society but how much value have they added in terms of the kind of development that we want.?We need therefore to focus on bringing back many of the companies that helped us thrive in the past. In Delta we had the Asaba Textile Mills, in Warri the Enerhen Construction Company, in Ughelli, the Bendel Glass Factory. The beverages company that used to exist have gone extinct. Superbru in Agbarho Otor, Sparkling in Ughelli, AT AND P in Sapele, 7up in Agbor. All these if and when they are fully back on stream can employ thousands of persons. Is it not scandalous that as large as Delta State is there is no thriving Tissue Paper Industry. There is no thriving Palm Oil producing company, there are no industries for the processing of agricultural products. Haba… Deltans let think again. Should it be government responsibility to build such companies only for government staff to be its undertakers? Its time to come home and plan towards building a greater State.?I believe strongly that if we think less of dividing the state, if we give less thought to who we will rather co exist with, if we consider how to improve on what is on the ground rather than think of what is our share we will be on the part of greatness for Delta.?Who says someone cannot develop a miniature Disneyland where people can visit for relaxation and education? You will make your money in time, create jobs, improve the economy and give the people something of value.?Who says that we can not have specially designed clothes reflecting the people we are? Who says that we can not encourage rubber factories, have a Tomatoes Puree factory, a Cassava processing plant for the production of Delta brand Semovita and other products? Who says that making plantain Chips will be a bad idea? Why must the price of Poultry rise astronomically at festive period? Is it true that we are too lazy and find the rearing of Goat and sheep a time wasting venture??We indeed have all that it takes to be great. When the economy is booming_ not from the Ports, Delta Steel Company or the Oil Industries_but from all other sundry human activities then there would be an improvement in the living standard of people and that is when we can say we have arrived.?So Deltans see the Truefaceofdelta as a clarion call to seek for and acheive the best for the state, its people and generations yet unborn. Its time to think DELTA STATE.Originally written by:Ngozi L, Chima?here.?
